Fergus O’Riordan

Local Election Candidate

Electoral Area: Ratoath

Meath Council

Fergus O’Riordan

I have been fortunate to call Ratoath my family’s home for the past 17 years.  As a married father of one son living in Ratoath, I firmly believe we have a vibrant town.  I am incredibly passionate about developing Ratoath’s potential and hold boundless optimism for the future of our local communities.

I am a community advocate with local groups and organisations including the GAA, our local Boxing Club, Ratoath’s St. Patrick’s Day Committee, Milltree Park Residents Association, as well as a founder and member of Ratoath Dog Bin volunteer group.

I want to ensure Ratoath and surrounding communities are well placed to put our best foot forward by developing better infrastructure and public services.  Ratoath deserves a strong voice to represent it and ensure progress for the area.  If elected, I will repay the trust of our local community by being their strong voice on Meath County Council.

Fergus’s priorities include:

Better infrastructure

I will aim to improve local facilities and infrastructure to help people in their daily life and make it easier to go about their business. These include projects to improve traffic flow, reducing peak time travel congestion and efforts to build safer, stronger communities such as:
• Prioritising the completion of the outer relief road.
• Revamping our village in line with the local area development plan.
• Prioritising with the HSE the provision of a dedicated local health clinic facility.

Improved public transport

I will be advocating for a significantly more reliable bus service. Being a regularly commuter, I have experienced first-hand the frustrations of buses not showing up. I will endeavour to ensure increased and more consistent timetables and local public transport facilities including:
• Improved timetables and working towards an increase in services at peak times.
• Provision of additional bus shelters and real-time information.
• Increasing accessibility to the M3 parkway train station.

Building Stronger, Safer, Communities

I will lead the charge on behalf of local communities in Ratoath for greater and more visible community policing. This will greatly assist in combating anti-social behaviour throughout our estates and public areas. I will engage the Joint Policing Committee to ensure local communities can access dedicated funding opportunities such as the Community Safety Innovation Fund.
