Monica Murphy

I have been living and working in Co. Waterford for 25 years, having grown up in Co. Leitrim on a farm. I am deeply committed to rural life and understand the many challenges that must be overcome, such as housing, transport, jobs, while seeking to maintain the many benefits that living in a rural area has to offer.

I am a wife, daughter, sister, friend, and I am a mother to twin girls, aged 6, which I believe is my current most critical role. I understand the worries, fears, and hopes we harbour for our children as mothers and fathers in a changing world. We must protect children’s childhoods, while also preparing them for all the world will offer them; good and bad. I believe we can achieve this in several ways – one being to ensure parents and guardians are offered practical and financial support as well as flexibility that honours families of all types.
