Aileen Lennon
Aileen Lennon, a dedicated community advocate, stands as the Fine Gael candidate for the upcoming local elections. Nestled in the heart of Delgany Village, Aileen’s deep roots in the community have shaped her commitment stronger safer communities.
For six years, Aileen owned and ran the local newsagents, positioning herself at the very core of the community. Her strong community connection is clear in her unwavering support for various organizations across the region, from Greystones to Delgany, Kilcoole, Willow Grove, and Newcastle. Aileen’s passion extends beyond business; she actively contributes to causes close to her heart, including aiding those affected by homelessness and domestic violence.
Aileen’s leadership journey began in 1999 when she assumed the role of Scout Leader in Delgany. Recently celebrating 22 years as the Cub Scout Leader, she has mentored countless young individuals from the surrounding area, fostering a sense of community. Many of these former scouts stay in touch with her, a testament to her lasting impact.
Her community involvement extends further. Aileen served as Chair of the Delgany Community Council, advocating for local interests. She is an active member of Delgany Tidy Towns, contributing to the preservation and enhancement of the area’s natural beauty. Additionally, she collaborates with a local eco group, focusing on biodiversity management within the community.
Education holds a special place in Aileen’s heart. She served on the Parents’ Association of the local national school, championing educational excellence. Furthermore, her dedication to youth development shines through her 15-year involvement in running the Junior section at Greystones Sailing Club—wearing multiple hats as Secretary, Children’s Officer, and volunteer parent.
Aileen’s vision extends to sustainable planning. She actively engages in discussions with developers and planners, advocating for well-thought-out residential developments that serve the entire community. Her campaign emphasises the simultaneous provision of schools, infrastructure improvements, and community amenities alongside new housing developments.
