Desperate Russian sanctions prove Ireland is doing the right thing – Richmond
16th November 2022 - Neale Richmond, TD
Russia’s sanctioning of 50 Irish officials including the Taoiseach proves that Ireland is doing the right thing by supporting Ukraine, according to a Government TD.
Fine Gael spokesperson on European Affairs, Neale Richmond, has repeated his call for the Russian Embassy located in his constituency of Dublin Rathdown to be closed in light of the latest desperate Russian act.
“In the last week, Russian forces have targeted residential areas, power plants and critical infrastructure in a series of missile attacks, killing yet more innocent Ukrainians as part of their bloody war.
“Ireland’s continuing support for the people of Ukraine is important both domestically and globally. The fact that the Russian Federation has now sanctioned 50 Irish officials, including the Taoiseach, proves that Ireland is doing the right thing.
“Ireland is proud to be on the side of International law, the UN Charter, the Ukrainian people and ultimately Ireland’s actions will show her to be on the right side of history.
“These Russian sanctions are a desperate act of a petulant regime that has set itself against the global community. Russia should end its illegal war of aggression, stop killing innocent civilians and stop the shelling of infrastructure.
“Russia’s status as a terrorist state is undeniable and this latest outburst directed at Ireland should surely be the catalyst to finally expel the Russian Ambassador and shut down the Russian Embassy located in my own constituency of Dublin Rathdown?
“The fact that the Russia authorities end their missive on sanctions stating that further action will be taken as per their Embassy in Dublin’s lead is a chilling reminder of the malevolent role this outpost continues to play in our society,” Deputy Richmond concluded.
